ORIGIN UNKNOWN - The Touch / Valley Of The Shadows EP (Remixes)

As one half of Origin Unknown alongside Andy C, Ant Miles unearthed the original floppy Akai sample disks from 1993 and managed to load them back into his Akai sampler. His goal was to not only replicate the sound and vibe of the original A-side of RAMM004, but also to refine and enhance all its elements, including parts of the ‘Part 2 mix’ that was released later in ’93.

The Touch (Ruff and Ruffer Remix)
Two DJs from Hornchurch, Essex, who are preparing to release their debut 12” on Out Of Romford Records later this year, were invited to remix ‘The Touch’ after the strength of their forthcoming Hardcore tear-out 12”. As long-time fans of the Ram and Liftin Spirit labels, they approached the remix with passion, transforming the samples into a twisted, high-energy track that has impressed with its power and technical skill. These two brothers are definitely ones to keep an eye on in 2024.

Valley of the Shadows (New Decade Remix)
New Decade, also from Out Of Romford Records, follow up their impressive remixes of ‘Cold Fresh Air’ and ‘The Big Bang’ with their take on the iconic ‘Valley of the Shadows’ (aka Long Dark Tunnel). Staying true to the sound and vibe of the 1993 original, New Decade has pushed the track further, twisting the hypnotic atmospheres while keeping the classic rolling feel with the drums and basslines. They've also included subtle nods to various remixes from the 1990s. The reception to this remix has been outstanding, with many considering it one of the best of the four remixes over its 31-year history.

Valley of the Shadows (Awake ’96 Mix)
This remix, which first appeared three years after the original in 1996, has been carefully remastered with modern technology for the final Ram Reloaded 2024 12” release. Andy C & Ant Miles revisited the track, slightly speeding it up and applying subtle tweaks and enhancements, including the added vocal ‘Awake in Another Dimension.’ This mix was a standout on Kiss FM and Radio 1 back in the day, and it’s sure to bring back memories for those who heard it in its prime.
