There's not much we can tell you about the identities of the "trusty producers" behind the Old Boys Vinyl Sessions project, other than that they have been making and releasing music under various aliases since the pre-MP3 days. It's easy to see why they want to avoid publicity, as what's an offer is a tasty house rework of a string-laden Blue Nile number from back in 1984. The opening 'Cloudburst Vox' wraps elements of the band's sultry, simmering original track (strings, vocals, pianos) and tech-house electronics around a locked-in house groove, while the accompanying 'Cloudburst Dub' strips out the vocals while retaining the gorgeous arrangements and druggy 21st century sounds. Purity was written in 2021 and was one of a few tracks I had completed, but remained unreleased. In 2022 I played a show for Dissonance in Bristol, and consequently played Purity, to which George (Artificial Red) contacted me the following day about this particular track I played, and I told him it was a piece called Purity. He really liked it and asked if he could remix it, and I agreed. Not long after he sent over the remix which I liked, but at that point I wasn't too sure where we could release them, so they remained unreleased for a time. In the latter part of 2023 we both played a show together and he played the remix, which caught my attention as I hadn't heard it in a while, and that was my first time hearing it on bigger speakers and I thought it sounded great! Label affiliates Mytron and Zongamin make a combined return to the ever-on-point Canadian stable Multi Kulti, delivering an extended selection of typically off-kilter, genre-bending sonic mastery. In what appears to be a match made in the leftfield heavens, the duo join forces to explore dance-ish music's outer reaches, blending tribal motifs with 8-bit sampling and all manner of wonkiness. From the blissful bells of Conjunction With Reality to the bass-heavy throb of GHX, there is unsurprisingly plenty to savour here. Opening cut '08932168' blends enchanting lead melodies with rolling polyrhythms and dubbed-out effects before the equatorial percussion of 'Calliope Omniglot' makes way for the wiggy atmospherics of the collection's title track. Floating Point and co's Melodies International label makes its first outing of 2022, and what a fine one it is too. It is a much needed reissue of two massive soul and disco gems by singer Al Johnson and Tom Fauntleroy, backed by a cover of the same tune by New York singer Tat Vega who had been active since the 60s and was big in musicals as well as singing to Berry Gordy's Motown. A direct response to the absurdity of the breakdown in the UK government, the horror of the treatment of refugees arriving on our shores and the callous disregard for the trauma being caused to low income people or anyone considered "other". While self-preserving Conservative MPs fought for their jobs, record profits were announced by energy companies as crippling amounts of money were gouged from people's pockets. Finally after all those years, Dutch producer Peter Aarsman presents the re-issue of his iconic peak-time track called Entangled. Originally released on Deviate in 1995, this 13 minute techno trip caused mayhem on dancefloors across the world. Peter's love for early Detroit techno in can be heard in the beautiful Res*lute. Forms is the debut release from Naturalisten. Behind this name is Rado, one of the founders of the Unknown Species collective. They've put together some great underground parties in London through the years, giving space to new talents and sounds, and blissfully ignoring trends and fads. Rado's colourful and imaginative take on deep techno shines through all the six tracks here. Fans of the sounds we often hear on the likes of Delsin, Nous'Klaer Audio, Spazio Disponibile, Bitta, Animalia, are likely to find plenty to love here. Starting with the subtlety of "Release The Tension"; passing through the swampy "Against The Tide", the bleepy minimal drum'n'bass of "Woodpecker", the acid deepness of "Aves Acid"; and landing on the early-morning atmospheres of "Canopy Dreams", which we find very much reminiscent of some exquisite James Holden moments from a time long gone. The final touch to an already beautiful body of work is added by Forest Drive West with his remix of the opening track "Release The Tension". pianist/composer Aidan Shepherd and drummer Tim Carnegie - were invited to Mykonos as part of a collaboration between Maera Music and 22a, which allowed the band to spend a few days writing and recording some new music. It was an opportunity for the quartet to spend some time together in a secluded hillside villa without any distractions and ultimately kick start the writing process for a long overdue album. Sometimes, the perfect track just comes out of nowhere, and that's exactly how Mamacita's 'Tu Amor' came to be. A Chilean rendition of Jamie Principle & Frankie Knuckles' 'Your Love,' the track was originally released in 2012 and gained attention after being played by the Idjut Boys in their sets. DJ Steve KIW caught wind of it and passed it along to Mr Bongo, where it quickly became a favorite. During a performance in Barcelona, Luke Una dropped the track and immediately felt the connection. The song's raw, DIY energy, combined with its unique arrangement, made it a natural fit for E Soul Cultura, leading to its first vinyl release. Created by Chilean DJ Mamacita (Carolina Vallejos) and producer Persona RS (Sebastian Roman) using lo-fi equipment, the track captures the spirit of early Chicago house. It gained a following within Chile’s underground scene but didn’t get much exposure outside Latin America and the US. For this release, Luke Una and Luke Solomon have re-edited the track, extending it and highlighting its quirky synths while maintaining that cosmic, offbeat vibe. Both the original and the re-edit are included in this vinyl release, giving new life to this previously underappreciated gem. Learn More

After all, the best among us eat bangers for breakfast! The A-siders rattle out like inexhaustible mags, as we hunt down bullet-holed cardboard cutouts of mortal enemies, spied in the reticle. It's only until after such an opening bloodbath that we find a moment to catch our breaths and put on a 'Clean Shirt', where rejuvenative acids resound between roomier beat.
