TOP BUZZ - Livin' In Darkness (Remixes)
£16.49The legendary Reading-based jungle label, Basement Records, has released two new remixes of Top Buzz’s 1993 bass-driven darkside anthem, made all the more meaningful following the tragic passing of TB (Jason Kaye) in 1993. The Swankout Legacy is the more distinctly junglist of the two, initially transforming the original’s relentless four-to-the-floor rhythm into a swirling Amen storm, layering stretched-out vocals and apocalyptic horns, before reintroducing the pounding 4/4 beat just as you thought it might have disappeared. The Swankout Legacy Vocal Mix, however, adds a hefty dose of reggae to the heavy, dancefloor-dominating hardcore beats, with such intense results that you might think the United Nations should get involved. A fitting, fiery tribute. Learn More -

FEEL FREE HI FI - Voyageur / Underground (7")
£12.49It says a lot about the interconnectedness of the global dubwise underground that it took downtime with Bristolian Neek in Portland to spur the link between ZamZam and Feel Free Hi Fi out of the Minneapolis Twin Cities. Once he put us on to them we were hooked- not only by their brilliant music but by their rigorously DIY approach and aesthetic. Heavily inspired by the more esoteric angles of early digi-era JA dancehall and UK dub (Shaka, Disciples, Mixman and Gussie P being some touchstones) the duo create a sound both reverential and unique, steeped in the traditions but striking out hard left into idiosyncratic territory all their own. Releasing all of their works up to this point on their own fantastic Digital Sting label, we’re excited to showcase them on ZamZam. Learn More -
FREEGROOVE - PASSION PROJECTS VOL 1
£11.48This record is a collection of tracks that I have completed over the past year since moving out of London. Side one is inspired by the mid-nineties jungle sound when the music was becoming more stripped back and influenced by hip-hop. Side two expresses my appreciation of the darkside hardcore sound. Growing up in the midlands I was exposed to this era of hardcore and jungle by hearing tapes from promotions such as Amnesia House and Quest. The Eclipse club in Coventry (later the Edge) played a major part in the proliferation of this style which continues to influence many contemporary artists within the rave scene. The samples used in these tracks reflect issues relevant to our current times whilst paying respect to the original architects of the hardcore and jungle sound. Learn More -

Player & A Freak emerges from shadowy depths with shimmering synths breaking through the darkness, while Dead On Your Feet rides on sharp metallic snares and crackling pads, adding a dystopian edge to its funk-laced rhythm. All Out cranks up the intensity with a tougher, faster pace designed for peak-time impact, before the B2 cut, Letters At War, takes an unexpected turn—infused with Eastern influences that lend it a haunting, distinctive atmosphere. MION aka EDIT SELECT - Theme: Remastered & Remixed
£14.99'Theme' is a 1999 techno classic from Mion aka Edit Select that was originally released on Music Man. 26 years on, it still sounds future and chimes with the deep tech sound of now, so has been remastered and offered up alongside new remixes from Vil, Earwax and Deniro. The original is a textured, loose and chunky techno stomper with fuzzy pads and imperfect edges. Vil's version has wispy synths and static electricity fizzing around a deep mid-tempo groove and cavernous sub bass. Earwax brings a widescreen serenity and supple depth, and Deniro ups the melodic quota with shimmering synth modulations. Learn More -

REFRACTED - In Veil EP
£24.98Mind Express boss Refracted, AKA Berlin's Alex Moya, emerges from the depths of some murky, oily, opaque lake. A place unsettling and unnerving - the site of some unknown tension - but also wonderfully inimitable and hard to countenance. Powerful stuff, just not really in a way that immediately presents itself as such. Nevertheless, before you know it these tones have enveloped and ensnared. Call it ambient techno, call it ambient, call it pure futurism - parts here almost feel like the ambient noises of familiar things that haven't been invented yet. If that makes sense? A moody precog of a record, it whirs and drones, echoes and dissipates. There are moments when structure become more defined, like the mystery of 'Initiation', but for the most part these are aural infinity loops. Learn More -

Act Of Resistance blends dub-inflected atmospheres with jagged industrial textures, while Validation drives forward with a relentless, hypnotic momentum. Grounded in classic hardware aesthetics but shaped by a bold, personal vision, this is immersive, purposeful techno built to last. Learn More -
DAN CURTIN - The 4 Lights LP
£26.48Dan Curtin has been serving up genuinely far-sighted techno productions since 1992. While he's nowhere near as high-profile as he once was, Curtin is still capable of delivering dancefloor magic - as The 4 Lights, his first album in 15 years, emphatically proves. Those familiar with Curtin's spacey, futuristic and frequently funky take on techno and electro will know what to expect: think infectious, classic-sounding Motor City rhythms overlaid with funky basslines, warming chords, intergalactic-sounding lead lines and a healthy dose of electronic futurism. Curtin predictably hits the spot throughout, with highlights including future techno anthem 'What of Lazarus', the melodic and jazzy headiness of 'Trust Blind' and the sub-heavy downtempo shuffle of 'Transformations'. If that's not enough to seal the deal, this limited-edition version comes pressed to striking clear and black marbled vinyl. Learn More -

£16.99Juan Atkins’s legendary Metroplex label does techno lovers a favor by reissuing the long-lost Future Sound EP—a rare treasure from 1993 originally released on the UK’s Underground Level Recordings and Belgium’s Buzz. Never repressed until now, this slice of techno history features four essential cuts: the late Mike Huckaby’s lush and atmospheric “Urban Tropics,” Reel By Reel (aka Marty Bonds)’s deep, cosmic explorations “Sundog” and “Interpret,” and “Serene,” a soulful collaboration with Detroit pioneer Anthony “Shake” Shakir. Carefully restored and remastered, these tracks now sound more vibrant than ever, encapsulating classic Detroit futurism in a release that feels both timeless and vital. Learn More -

FIRST CHOICE - Love & Happiness (RON HARDY Edit)
£15.98The American female vocal trio First Choice released their rendition of 'Love and Happiness' in 1973. The track is a cover of Al Green's original released just a year earlier in 1972, but First Choice's version was perhaps helped along the way by a peak case of nominative determinism: for us, theirs is the first choice. Featured on their debut album, Armed and Extremely Dangerous, it stood out on the Philly soul girl gang's record as one of the records most propitious to sampling by house and techno musicians, such as Todd Terry and Jungle Brothers. But this time, the legacy of this preceptive soulful-house interplay is honoured by a newly reissued remix by the mysterious but titanic Chicago producer Ron Hardy, whose inclusion on the record is the real star here. Hardy's signature reel-to-reel fuzzes and presence-bled hues effect recollections of a pre-DAW production setup, and the resonances of dub (woodblocks, four-tone hooks, burly basslines) nest the original Al Green vocal nicely. SURGEON - Shell Wave (2x LP)
£32.99Since at least 2024, by our reckoning, shells have been having something of a moment in electronic music. Why, exactly, is anyone’s guess. Maybe it’s the unsettling feel of nautilus palps or the spiraling segments of ancient fossils—forms that seem to intuit the mechanized pulse of techno. Birmingham linchpin Surgeon (Anthony Child) taps into this fascination, transforming chirping sonic opercula into filter-fed 4/4 Borg-like entities. Despite the thematic suggestion, Child keeps his setup minimal: “For me, it's an interesting experience returning to old techniques again after 30 years,” he says. The result is a stripped-back, live-style set—eight tracks recorded in single takes. Only "Dying" breaks from the beat-driven mold, offering a morose, mantra-like soundscape. Learn More -
VARDAE - Flaming As A Cloud EP
£18.98French techno alchemist Vardae is the latest artist to feature on German experimental drum & bass label Samurai Music. Vardae has dabbled with 85/170bpm speeds before, most notably on his excellent 'The Kaipos' EP. This time we get a full EP's worth of deep techno-influenced drum & bass, a sound that is familiar to anyone following recent trends in the deeper scenes of techno: acid lines, forest drums, mystic vocals, etc. The opener 'The Light Motion' is a halftime groover with fluttering percussion propelling it forward. The second 'Chaeming Your Soul' has a more recognisable drum & bass rhythm underneath, bringing to mind Overlook and UVB-76's back catalogue with powerful acid washes over the top. 'Voices Of Depossesion' has a conventional four-to-the-floor beat but at a blistering BPM and 'Flaming As A Cloud' ends with an excellent drum & synth-ony. One for fans of Marco Shuttle, Pessimist, et al. Learn More -

Stretching across eras and intentionalities within their work, they invite listeners to inhabit unfamiliar realms of phenomena in the dance. Influenced by the surrealist whimsy of Marcel Duchamp & fellow provocateurs in the Dada movement; the artist as self, subject, and instrument is disassembled, embraced, & reassembled back again into an enticingly abstract form under the sonic melding of experiential sound & techno as the medium.
