As one half of Origin Unknown alongside Andy C, Ant Miles unearthed the original floppy Akai sample disks from 1993 and managed to load them back into his Akai sampler. His goal was to not only replicate the sound and vibe of the original A-side of RAMM004, but also to refine and enhance all its elements, including parts of the ‘Part 2 mix’ that was released later in ’93. The American female vocal trio First Choice released their rendition of 'Love and Happiness' in 1973. The track is a cover of Al Green's original released just a year earlier in 1972, but First Choice's version was perhaps helped along the way by a peak case of nominative determinism: for us, theirs is the first choice. Featured on their debut album, Armed and Extremely Dangerous, it stood out on the Philly soul girl gang's record as one of the records most propitious to sampling by house and techno musicians, such as Todd Terry and Jungle Brothers. But this time, the legacy of this preceptive soulful-house interplay is honoured by a newly reissued remix by the mysterious but titanic Chicago producer Ron Hardy, whose inclusion on the record is the real star here. Hardy's signature reel-to-reel fuzzes and presence-bled hues effect recollections of a pre-DAW production setup, and the resonances of dub (woodblocks, four-tone hooks, burly basslines) nest the original Al Green vocal nicely. Label affiliates Mytron and Zongamin make a combined return to the ever-on-point Canadian stable Multi Kulti, delivering an extended selection of typically off-kilter, genre-bending sonic mastery. In what appears to be a match made in the leftfield heavens, the duo join forces to explore dance-ish music's outer reaches, blending tribal motifs with 8-bit sampling and all manner of wonkiness. From the blissful bells of Conjunction With Reality to the bass-heavy throb of GHX, there is unsurprisingly plenty to savour here. Opening cut '08932168' blends enchanting lead melodies with rolling polyrhythms and dubbed-out effects before the equatorial percussion of 'Calliope Omniglot' makes way for the wiggy atmospherics of the collection's title track. Storm on Earth steps out with a new self-titled label that lays its cards on the label with this first four-track missive. It's techno with character to kick off with as 'Signal' has dusty drum funk topped with trippy vocals that are well treated and pan and phase around the mix. 'Storm' has a dark and driving undertone with distant synth paranoia keeping you on your toes. 'Earth' dazzles with bright synth lines that are pixel-thin and packed with emotion over the cantering drums. Last of all is 'Radar,' the darkest of the lot and one with gritty synth waves, more loopy vocals and a devastating bassline. Learn More

Mr Bongo now proudly presents a reissue of this brilliant, bossa-channelling Bill Withers reinterpretation from Studio Rio’s 2014 release ‘The Brazil Connection’. In light of the new music coming out in these times that is indebted to this particular side to the masked crew, it's refreshing to hear how vital and uncompromising a track as well worn as "The Final Frontier" sounds now. The pace doesn't let up as the cosmic surge of "Entering Quadrant Five" takes over, but hold tight for "Base Camp Alpha 808" as it sports perhaps the most compatible structure of all the tracks in light of more modern juxtapositions. Forms is the debut release from Naturalisten. Behind this name is Rado, one of the founders of the Unknown Species collective. They've put together some great underground parties in London through the years, giving space to new talents and sounds, and blissfully ignoring trends and fads. Rado's colourful and imaginative take on deep techno shines through all the six tracks here. Fans of the sounds we often hear on the likes of Delsin, Nous'Klaer Audio, Spazio Disponibile, Bitta, Animalia, are likely to find plenty to love here. Starting with the subtlety of "Release The Tension"; passing through the swampy "Against The Tide", the bleepy minimal drum'n'bass of "Woodpecker", the acid deepness of "Aves Acid"; and landing on the early-morning atmospheres of "Canopy Dreams", which we find very much reminiscent of some exquisite James Holden moments from a time long gone. The final touch to an already beautiful body of work is added by Forest Drive West with his remix of the opening track "Release The Tension". His reinterpretation slowly creeps in and wraps you up in a wave of low frequencies, before blossoming into an epic outro. Learn More
