MANIPULATE & THRESH - Heavy Karma (7")
The virgin release for Stanley Lockjaw's Nause Corps imprint, Manipulate & Thresh represent the first in what is mooted to be a run of releases that will "bring together scratch musicians, DJ's and affiliates to pool ideas and create music for people interested in breaking boundaries in electronic, turntable and hip-hop music". So with the manifesto set, how does it sound? Well, much as you'd imagine - with mealy breaks and clever-clogs scratching rubbing up against vocal samples, belying some serious time spent at the Shadow/Cut Chemist coal-face. So whilst the A 'Heavy Karma' lopes along with creased electronic breaks and dusty intent, the back is handed over to 'Strontium Sleazewave' where the carpel-scratching is embedded amongst some woofer-damaging bass straight from Miami.
