OBSCURE SHAPE / MAHARTI - Clergy Splits 02

Obscure Shape and Maharti take one side each of the latest 12" sermon from Clergy and do a fine job in asserting their own individual styles. The former kicks off with 'Desire', which is a hulking great slab of pumped-up drum patterns and warm but hammering hits that nail you to the floor. 'You & M' has more fine-grain texture and a dub charge down low then 'Things We Never Shared' is more stripped back to glitchy, scruffy textures and heavy but swinging funk. Maharti steps up for the B-side with a more atmospheric style on 'Tukje Doen', which is ghostly and shadowy for the small hours. 'Nekker' revels in the warmth of vast pillowy kicks while 'Rosswell' has paranoid voices and digital melodies all filling the airwaves with futuristic tension.
